Men make solid start to Indoor League

The men’s track and field team made a solid start to the indoor track and field season finishing round one with 25 points.

Eoin Strutt took second place in the 800 metres in 1.55.69 just 38 hundredths of a second behind Ennis Track’s Damian Landers.

Mark Smyth collected eight points taking third place in the 60 metres in 7.12 seconds.

Matt Cotter picked up four points finishing seventh with a jump of 5.61 metres in the long jump with Liam Sheehan throwing 7.29 metres in the shot putt for seventh place and four points.

This gave the men’s team 25 points just nine points off joint third place Cushinstown and Menapians. Clonliffe lead after round one with 56 points with Galway City Harriers second on 39 points.

The women’s team had a slower start collecting 12 points in round one with Susie O’Flynn taking second place in the 800 metres behind Racheal Browne of Sli Cualann in a non-timed race.

Kay Bannon collected three points in the shot put with a best throw of 5.55 metres.

In the guest races, Liam Sheehan finished his 60 metre heat fourth in 7.55 seconds with Daniel Scully posting 1:58.13 in his 800 metre heat.
