Silver and Bronze for McGoldrick and O’Flynn

There were medals on the double on day one of the National Juvenile championships in Tullamore with silver and bronze claimed in the women’s under 19 championship.

Susie O’Flynn and Aoibhinn McGoldrick walked away with national medals In a tight finishing final few meters.

The race was won out by West Muskerry’s Stephanie Cotter in two minutes 16.26 seconds with Aoibhinn McGoldrick taking silver in two minutes 18.86 seconds.

Susie O’Flynn came home for third place less than a second behind McGoldrick in two minutes 19.71 seconds just ahead of Kilkenny City Harriers Annie O’Connor.

Matthew Cotter took fourth place in the under 19 long jump with a best of six metres, just 35 centimetres off bronze. Billy Oshafi finished fifth with a best of 5.60 metres.

Cillian Power also competed in the under 15 hammer event.

Day two of the national juvenile championships takes place on Sunday with a host of Raheny Shamrock athlete’s competing.
