Comerford Sixth in World-Para Final

Orla Comerford produced a very successful sixth place in the T13 100 metre final at the World-Para Athletics Championships in London.

Comerford making her World Para-Athletics debut got off to a powerful start eventually finishing sixth in 12.58 second just outside her personal best.

The race was won by Ukraine’s Leilia Adzhametova in 12.00 seconds with South African Ilse Hayes taking silver in 12.17 seconds and American Kym Crosby taking bronze in 12.18 seconds.

“I was really delighted with my start,” Explained the 19-year-old, “My plan is to continue to knock off fractions of a second yearly towards Tokyo.”

“At age nineteen I have years to hunt down these girls” smiled Comerford having now competed in her second major championship.

“12.55 seconds in her first ever World Championship final represents excellent progress since Rio by Orla” added Irish team manager James Nolan. “A full three tenths of a second faster and two positions higher.”
