National Indoor Day One Report

Pole vaulter Conor Bermingham finished a brave sixth on day one of the Irish Life Health National indoor championships.

Bermingham cleared four metres on his second jump of the day, but was unable to clear the 4.10 metre mark. Matthew Callinan of St Laurence O’Toole taking gold with a best of 4.30 metres.

Meanwhile Sean O’Driscoll, Siobhan Eviston, Brian Fay and Kieran Kelly all progressed to tomorrow’s 60 metre, 800 metre and 1500 metre finals respectively.

Sean O’Driscoll took third place in heat two of the 60 metres clocking 7.04 seconds. Liam Sheehan took seventh place in heat four of the same event in 7.56 seconds.

Siobhan Eviston progressed to the 800 metre final finishing second in heat one posting two minutes 18.78 seconds.

While both Brian Fay and Kieran Kelly progressed to the 1500 metre final taking second and third place in heat two. Fay posted 4:00.45 with Kelly just behind in 4:00.51.

Day two of the championships gets underway at 11:55 in the National indoor arena in Abbotstown. A line more promotion than Athletics Ireland have given their own championship.
