Kelly Takes Golden 1500m National Title

Kieran Kelly landed his second national title as he powered to 1500 metre victory at the Irish Life Health National Indoor championship.

Kelly toyed with the pack, eventually moving to the front of the field with 250 metres and striking for home at the bell, with none of the field able to reply.

Kelly powered home to win out in four minutes 8.70 seconds, nearly one second clear of Dunleer’s Gary Campbell with Eoin Pierce of Clonliffe Harriers taking bronze.

Brian Fay produced a serious performance to finish in fourth place after a fast final lap to clock 4:10.73.

Siobhan Eviston made a welcome return to championship running landing her third national senior medal, taking 800 metre silver.

Eviston raced through the field to post two minutes 11.02 seconds for silver, behind UCD’s Alannah Lally in 2:08.81, Lally having taken fourth place at European under 23 800 metre last July.

Meanwhile Sean O’Driscoll finished sixth in the 60 metre dash posting 6.94 seconds.

Matthew Cotter took ninth place in the Long Jump with a best of 6.13 metres. While Laura Fallon finished 13th in the pole vault with a best of 2.15 metres.
