New Record For Favors, Euro U23 Mark For Fay

Eric Favors broke his Outdoor shot put record once again this weekend, throwing 18.49 metres as he finished third at the Spec Town invitational.

Raheny Shamrock athletes took two gold medals at the IUAA championships in Athlone IT this weekend.

Brian Fay took gold in the 3,000m steeplechase posted nine minutes one point 48 seconds for gold. Fay representing DCU also clocked the European under-23 standard.

UCC’s Cillian Kirwan took gold in the 800 metres winning out in 1:53.45, with less than point five of a second to spare on Peter Kilgannon of UCD.

Trinity College’s Conor Bermingham secured silver in the pole vault with a best of 3.60 behind DCU’s Shane Power who cleared 3.80 metres.

Elsewhere there was fourth place finishes for Sean O’Driscoll in the 100 metres in 11.19 seconds and Kim O’Hare in the long jump with a best of 5.28 metres.

Aoibhinn McGoldrick took fourth in the 1500 metres in four minutes 45.59 seconds.

Brandon Arrey took fifth in the 200 metres posting 22.12 seconds with Andrew Hyland eighth in 5,000 metres posting 15:57.41.

Belated congratulations to Helen Buckley who finished sixth in the Pentathlon at the World masters championship in Poland last weekend.
