Sean O’Hanlon Wins Brian Holland Cup

Sean O’Hanlon landed the 60th edition of the Holland Cup with a very special guest in attendance, in Brian Holland.

The Holland Cup is the club’s oldest race promotion having been first held in 1959. A three mile sealed handicap road race.

The race was one of the original training runs for the club, starting at what is now the taxi rank, going up the Howth Road, turning at Watermill road and heading down to the seafront.

From the seafront to Blackbanks and then back up the Howth Road to the Taxi Rank.

Brian Holland is a founder member of the club, whose family emigrated from Ireland in 1959, a year after the club was founded. Brian returned to Ireland to present the club with a cup, which the club adopted as the Brian Holland Cup and have competed for ever since.

After a long absence, Brian confirmed rumours of his demise were greatly exaggerated in 2017, when he contacted the club.

After attending the 60th anniversary last November, Brian made a promise to compete in the 2019 Holland Cup and it was our honour to see him back racing in Raheny tonight.

On the road, Dylan O’Brien held off Donal Foley to break the tape in 14 minutes 27 seconds.

However the trophy as goes to the best performing athlete per the handicapper, who was Sean O’Hanlon.

Dylan O’Brien collected silver and Donal Foley bronze.

Full gun to tape results and the top six in the 2019 Holland Cup available under our results tab.
