Raheny Trio Help Ireland To Seventh Place

The Raheny Shamrock trio of Niamh Fogarty, Eric Favors and Mark Smyth helped Ireland to seventh place and retain their first league status at the European Team Championships in Sandnes, Norway.

Ireland took 227 points, one and a half points clear of Romania and retaining their first league status as four teams along with the suspended Russia were relegated to the second league.

Niamh Fogarty finished seventh in the discus with a best of 49.47m to hand Ireland five points. The competition was won by Portugal Irina Rodrigues with a best of 58.16m.

Eric Favors took sixth place and six points in the men’s shot put with a best throw of 18.25 meters, this event was won by Denzel Comenentia of the Netherlands with a best of 20.61 metres.

Mark Smyth was part of the Irish 4x100m relay team which finished fifth in 40.31 seconds with Turkey wining out in 39.46 seconds.
