Smyth’s College Indoor Gold

Mark Smyth won the 200m title at the University indoor championships in Athlone IT clocking 21.44 seconds.

Wearing DCU colours Smyth clocked point 23 seconds, Smyth having won his heat in 22.01.

Smyth then helped the DCU men’s 4x200m relay team to gold in a new Irish university record 86.82 seconds.

Sean O’Driscoll (DCU) took bronze in the 60m in 6.91 seconds just point two seconds off David McDonald (WIT) in second place with Dean Adams (UU) taking gold in 6.73 seconds.

Elsewhere Dylan Kirwan (Maynooth) finished third in his 400m heat in 52.93 seconds just behind Oisin McCorry (UCD) in 51.84 seconds.

In the long jump Matthew Cotter (Trinity College) best of 5.98m saw him finish fifth.

Kim O’Hare (DCU) finished fourth in the triple jump with a best of 11.56m, just four centimetres off bronze. This event was won by DCU’s Sarah Buggy with a best of 13.18m.
