Michael Delaney RIP

It is with great sadness that Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club announces the death of our friend and member Michael Delaney.

Michael died yesterday May fourth after a long illness very bravely fought.

Michael was a latecomer to the sport. He soon made up lost ground and turned out to be a formidable Marathon runner. In 2017 he won his category in the Dublin City Marathon.

Prior to joining Raheny Shamrocks Michael who was visually impaired and lead a very distinguished career in Para Cycling. He competed in the the tandem event in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.

Michael also represented Ireland in the World Championships and World Cup.

In line with government guidelines, Michael’s funeral will be private. It will be livestreamed at midday on Wednesday, May sixth, and can be accessed here

Burial afterwards in St Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton.

We are assembling in two places. At the junction of Brookwood Avenue and Harmonstown Road at 11.30am and the entrance to St Anthony’s Church on St Lawrences Road at 12.15. Wear your green jackets.
