History was made on Friday morning as Sophie Becker became the first Raheny Shamrock Athlete to compete in the European Indoor Championships.
Becker finished in a very commanding third place in the second heat of the 400 metres on Friday morning, finishing in 53.23 seconds.
The race was won by Irini Vasiliou of Greece in 52.76 seconds with Lithunaia’s Agne Serksniene second in 53 seconds, both automatically qualifying for the semi-final.
Becker’s time was not enough to qualify for the semi-final as a fastest loser, but a very impressive performance and big effort. No doubting we will see Sophie back in the Ireland singlet soon.
