National Mixed Cross Country Relay Bronze

There was a first ever national bronze medal at the mixed relay which was held in the Autumn Open Cross Country today.

The Raheny team of Niamh Kearney, Lucy Barrett, Shane Spring and Cillian Kirwan posted 18 minutes 26 seconds to take bronze behind gold medallists DCH and silver medallists DSD.

The team was led out by Lucy Barrett who ran an opened leg in five minutes four seconds for sixth place when handing over to Shane Spring.

Spring’s time was clocked as four minutes 21 seconds as the team remained sixth heading for the third leg.

Niamh Kearney posted four minutes 40 seconds for her third leg, to bring the team to third place with Cillian Kirwan posted clocking four minutes 22 seconds to bring home the team in third place.

For the record, DCH posted 17:53 for gold with DSD 18:04 for silver and Raheny 18:26 for bronze. Clonliffe took fourth place in 18:41 and Lucan fifth in 19:04.

This is just the second year of this event with the top two clubs qualifying for the European Champion club cup.
