The Raheny Shamrock women’s team were just outside the medals at he national intermediate championships in Kilkenny.
Mairead Roche was first home in 17th place, followed by Roisin Leahy 22nd, Sarah Deneher 36th and Niamh Corry 39th for a total of 114 points. That was just 17 points off bronze medallists St Finbarr’s with 97. Molly Richard was the non-scoring team member.
Also on the card in Kilkenny was the masters cross country championship with some solid medals brought back to Raheny.
Annette Kealy lead the women home in eighth place taking F55 gold. Zoe Quinn came home in 10th place taking F45 bronze.
They were followed by Brid Ni Chonail 68th, Trish Fitzgerald 72nd and Lorraine Byrne 80th. Those with Annette Kealy scored 228 points giving them the F50 championship well clear of Mayo.
While also on the medal podium were Jean Dunne taking F60 bronze. Also running were Jenny Colbert, Rachel Ormrod and Melanie Hearns.
In the men’s race Mick Clohisey took second place overall and M35 silver. Ciaran McCarthy came home in 32nd place to take m45 silver.
With David Kirwin 35th and John Dunne 52 the men’s team took fifth place overall.
Also running in the competitive race were Ian McConkey, Thomas McEvoy, Bernard Roe, David Jackson, Davey Dyane, Niall O’Neill, Keith Fleming, Mark McComish and Michael Kehoe.
Staying with the championships and on Saturday Greg O’Beirne clocked 4:35.07 at the national 50K championship in Donadea with Gavin Judge posted 4:43.29.
