Sophie Becker steered Ireland to the 4x400m European Championship final this morning in Rome.
The Irish team won their semi-final as Sharlene Mawdsley produced another big final leg to see Ireland win in 3:24.81.
Becker led the team out handing over to Phil Healy (Leevale) in third place with Lauren Cadden (Sligo) hanging in the top four as Sharlene Mawdsley to bring the team home.
The 4x400m final takes place on Wednesday evening 8:06pm.
There was no luck for Mark Smyth and the men’s 4x100m relay team.
Smyth ran a very productive second leg, however Ireland lost their way from there, finishing outside the qualifying spots. The team however did manage a season’s best time of 39.34 seconds.
The team was Bori Akinola, Mark Smyth, Colin Doyle and Israel Olatunde.
