Mark Smyth made an impressive European under 20 championship debut finishing fourth in heat one of the 200 metres and progressing to the semi-final automatically.<\/p>\n

Smyth ran a strong opening 100 metres before trying slightly in the final 80 metres to finish fourth in 21.63 seconds and safely progress to the semi-final.<\/p>\n

The race was won outright by Jona Efoloko in 21.26 seconds with Norwegian Matthias Hove second in 21.30 and Spain\u2019s Manuel De Nicolas third in 21.59 seconds.<\/p>\n

The senior Ireland international has been drawn in lane seven of semi-final two which is due to start at 3:16pm Irish time on Saturday.<\/p>\n
