Mick Clohisey wrapped up preparations for next month\u2019s European Championship landing silver in the national 10,000 metres.<\/p>\n

Clohisey posted 29 minutes 34.89 seconds for silver, just behind another European Championship bound marathoner Stephen Scullion who clocked 29:34.89.<\/p>\n

It was two in a row for Clohisey, taking silver with Mark Kirwan taking fourth place in 30:17.80.<\/p>\n

The opening day of the 2018 National track and field championships saw plenty of good results.<\/p>\n

The 200m final saw Aisling Drumgoole take sixth place in 25.53 seconds was Orla Comerford eighth in 26.50 seconds, the race been won by Phil Healy in 23.64 seconds.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Brandon Arrey powered into the 400 metre final winning heat two in 47.78 seconds. That race takes place at 6:45 on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Also over the one lap, Conaill O\u2019Toole clocked 51.90 seconds in heat two for eighth place and Dylan Kirwan 53.13 seconds for fourth place.<\/p>\n

Dylan Kirwan was a busy man on the day, having posted 59.56 seconds in the 400m Hurdles, not enough to progress.<\/p>\n

Half milers Aoibhinn McGoldrick and Iseult O\u2019Donnell both made the 800 metre final. McGoldrick qualifying automatically, taking third place in heat one in 2:18.77.<\/p>\n

While Iseult O\u2019Donnell as a fastest loser in 2:21.22. The women\u2019s 800 metre final is off at 6:15.<\/p>\n

Both metric milers Kieran Kelly and Brian Fay progressed to the 1500 metre final. Kelly taking third place in heat one in 3:58.66 and Fay second in heat two in 3:58.88.<\/p>\n

Conor Dooney continued the defence of his 5000 metre title automatically qualifying for the final, taking fourth place in heat one in 14:55.02. The 5,000 metre final is off at 4:40.<\/p>\n

Also competing Liam Sheehan posted 24.98 in heat of the 200 metres for sixth place in heat two.<\/p>\n
