Niamh Fogarty landed the national discus title with a new personal best and club record of 52.96 metres on day one of the Irish Life Health National Track & Field championships.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fogarty\u2019s first three attempts were all over 51 metres with her sixth and final attempt registering 53.96 metres, some 2.66 metres clear of Tralee Harriers Claire Fitzgerald.<\/span><\/p>\n

While there was silver medals for Brian Fay and Mick Clohisey and bronze for Kim O\u2019Hare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fay took steeplechase silver in 9:02.42 just three seconds behind Clonliffe\u2019s Jayme Rossiter. While Clohisey was eight seconds of Stephen Scullion as Clohisey posted 29:44.18.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cillian O\u2019Leary finished ninth in the 10,000 metres posting 31:21.84.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kim O\u2019Hare took bronze in the triple jump with a best of 11.72 metres in her sixth and final jump. Gold went to St. Abbans Sarah Buggy in 12.70 meters with Waterford\u2019s Grace Furlong taking silver with a best of 12.14 metres.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Mark Smyth progressed to Sunday\u2019s 100m final posting 10.60 seconds to win his heat. Smyth will be joined in the final by Sean O\u2019Driscoll who won heat four in 10.82.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was no joy for Liam Sheehan who clocked 12.09 and Michael Farrelly who pulled up before crossing the line in 20.57.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brandon Arrey breezed into the 200m final winning heat four in 48.19 seconds, while Philip Gorman bowed out after posting 56.18 seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was no luck for Aisling Drumgoole or Hannah Byrne in the 400 metres as they bowed out posting 59.19 (Drumgoole) and 60.85 (Byrne). Lucy Barrett bowed out of the 1500m in 4:56.43.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kieran Kelly setup another shot at the 1500 metres when he made Sunday\u2019s final finishing third in heat one in 3:55.44.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Cilian Kirwan progressed to the 800 metre final winning his heat in 1:54.17.<\/span><\/p>\n

Conor Dooney will contest the 5,000m final having finished third in heat one and grabbing an automatic qualifier place in 15:15.93.<\/span><\/p>\n
