Daniel Stone produced one of the fastest performances in the 22-year history of the Lord Mayor of Raheny series to claim the Tommy Lynam mid-summer cup.<\/p>\n

19-year-old Stone one of the club\u2019s brightest middle distance prospects was in excellent form controlling the race from early on and clocking 9:23 for victory.<\/p>\n

In a highly competitive race Sli Culainn\u2019s Jason Byrne put it right up to Stone and came home in second place clocking 9:47.<\/p>\n

Ian Conroy took third place in 10:04 in another big battle with another Wicklow man Alan Duffy of Parnell\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s race was just as competitive with Annette Kealy clocking victory in 11:14 five seconds clear of Jenny O\u2019Sullivan with Edel Gaffney of Trim taking third place in 11:25.<\/p>\n

The Tommy Lynam Mid-Sumer\u2019s cup has an interesting history as a club race. The race started life as the Mid-Summers day 5K back in 2005, finding a slot in the calendar on the Sunday closest to Mid-Summers day.<\/p>\n

Then race director John Fitzsimmons proposed the introduction of the \u201cTommy Lynam cup\u201d after the passing of our then president Tommy Lynam in 2008.<\/p>\n

In time the race moved from 5K to two mile and has been part of the Lord Mayor Series since 2015.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Lord Mayor of Raheny Two Mile series continues this Tuesday night with the Maeve Devlin Cup. Entry fee is \u20ac7 or \u20ac30 for the remainder of the series.<\/p>\n
