Sophie Becker and the Irish 4x400m Mixed Relay team put in another stellar performance at the Olympic Stadium as they finished eighth in their final.<\/p>\n

This was the first time an Irish relay team had ever qualified for an Olympic relay final and they recorded a time of 3:15.04, the second fastest ever by an Irish quartet.<\/p>\n

The team lined up with the same personnel as the qualifying round, and in the same order – Cillin Greene, Phil Healy, Sophie Becker, and Chris O\u2019Donnell.<\/p>\n

Becker took the baton from Phil Healy in seventh place and had clear track in front of her, running a composed third leg with the sprinting powerhouse Jamaicans in pursuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all held our own and fought to the very last bit, we\u2019re all very happy with that\u201d explained Becker afterward.<\/p>\n

Becker\u2019s training partner Cillin Greene said \u201cIt\u2019s an incredible experience to be out here. No one gave us a shot at making a final, so to step up on the biggest stage is an astronomical experience for us all.\u201d<\/p>\n

A brilliant performance by the Irish quartet, we look forward to many great performances and a trip to Paris in three year\u2019s time.<\/p>\n
