On the day of Brian Corcoran’s funeral it is worth noting the successes and longevity of his coaching career.<\/p>\n

From Ciar\u00e1n McDunphy in 1984 to Cillian Kirwan in 2021 Brian coached athletes to national senior individual medals with a 37-year span from the first to the last medal and in five different decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s).<\/p>\n

Brian coached national senior champions in three of those decades (80s, 90s and 10s) with nine titles won (Ciaran McDunphy – 5, myself – 3, Ciar\u00e1n O’Cathain-1).<\/p>\n

Disciplines ranged from hurdles, middle distance to 5k road. He served as national hurdles coach for a number of years and was coaching staff on many junior, U23s and school internationals.<\/p>\n

Brian’s successes have also extended to international level with Orla Comerford winning two World-para Athletics European Championship medals and she’s a two time Paralympian.<\/p>\n

Also an endless amount of national relay, intervarsity, U23 and underage medals won by athletes coached by Brian.<\/p>\n

This was all as the man himself would humorously say after any achievement by one of his athletes “In spite of our best efforts”.
