This Sunday, the Dublin masters cross country championship 2022 arrives on our doorstep when the club hosts the event in St Anne’s Park.<\/p>\n

Over the last few years the event has become by the far biggest, most popular and most competitive championship within the County.<\/p>\n

Of far more significance to Raheny people is; for the first time since his sudden passing in October 2020, clubs will be competing, in addition to the normal competitions, for the new Pat Hooper cup.<\/p>\n

This is a beautiful new trophy commissioned by the Dublin athletics board in memory of their late chairman and our great clubman.<\/p>\n

Nobody did more over the years to promote and drive the popularity of the Dublin masters cross country and it is fitting that he be so honoured. The Cup goes to the Club who accumulates the most points in team places across the six team completions; M35, M50, M65, W35, W50 and W65.<\/p>\n

This added incentive to be part of something special has certainly garnered the interest of Raheny masters and already 90 Men and Women have indicated their intention to go to the line.<\/p>\n

The Pat Hooper Cup will be hard won but it will not be let journey out of Raheny without a fight.<\/p>\n

With so many of the usual suspects on competitive duty on Sunday we are appealing for volunteers to assist in course construction (8:30am Sunday morning in St Anne\u2019s) and stewarding (meet 12:15pm St Anne\u2019s on Sunday). If you are willing to help out please let Dick Hooper (087-2271940), Orla Manley (087-3116604) or Christy Reilly (086-8543342) know.<\/p>\n

Finally any masters who still want to compete should get their names to Dick Hooper or Orla Manley, the club captains without further delay.
