Kieran Kelly became the first Raheny Shamrock athlete to claim the historic Clonliffe Two Mile on Sunday.<\/p>\n

A historic victory for Kelly came to reality after the one mile mark past Glasnevin cerimetry as Kelly broke the tape outside the famous gravediggers pub in 9:10.54.<\/p>\n

Kelly was some 15 seconds ahead of the host club’s Sean O’Leary with Sean Cronin of Clonliffe third in 9:34.21.<\/p>\n

The Clonliffe Two was first ran in 1898 and is now the longest running continuous road race in the World. Today’s event was the 131st running of the event. A historic race with a historic victory in 2022.<\/p>\n

Update: Annette Kealy was the next shamrock home in 11:31 followed by Jeff Moore 12:35, Jean Dunne 14:19, Connor Jennings 15:54, Mick Goodman 17:43 and Ciaran McCarthy 17:43.<\/p>\n

Also claiming victory this weekend was another impressive win by Carmel Ward at the Clonakilty Waterford half-marathon. Ward who won the Longford marathon earlier this year, broke the tape in 90 minutes 36 seconds.<\/p>\n

Also during the week Mark Smyth had an impressive season open when he won his 60 metre heat at the NIA Live meet in the National indoor arena. Smyth clocked 6.88 seconds the fastest of any runner on the day. Also over 60 metres Tinaya clocked 7.49 seconds.<\/p>\n

At the same meeting, Robert Frewen took fifth place in the men’s mile in 4:41.24.
