Freddy Keron-Sittuk opened his cross country season taking bronze in the Athletics Ireland Open Cross Country Festival at the new national cross country venue in Abbotstown.<\/span><\/p>\n

Freddy landed bronze finishing nine seconds behind overall winner and former two time AXA Raheny 5 winner Mullingar Harriers Mark Christie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mick Clohisey finished 23 seconds behind Christie in sixth place with Kevin Dooney just seven seconds behind Mick in seventh. Conor Dooney took 10th<\/span><\/sup> position.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was a good showing from the Raheny men with the national inter-club cross country championship just five weeks away. Simon Ryan placed 27th <\/span><\/sup>while Michael McMahon came home 30th<\/span><\/sup> overall and fifth man over 35. <\/span><\/p>\n

John Dunne took 35th<\/span><\/sup> place with Eoin Strutt 49th<\/span><\/sup> just ahead of Des Kennedy who was second over 45 and Donal Foley in 51st<\/span><\/sup> place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other Raheny Shamrock men across the line were David Kirwan 56th<\/span><\/sup>, Ciaran McCarthy 61st<\/span><\/sup>, Dermot Gorman 73rd<\/span><\/sup> and Rory O\u2019Sullivan 79th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mick Traynor took 82nd<\/span><\/sup> place overall and fourth over 50 with Daniel Scully 96th<\/span><\/sup>, Ian McConkey 100th, and Donal Quinn 147 in 32:34.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fionnuala McCormack won the senior women’s race\u00a0with Karen Crossan the first raheny athlete home in 41st<\/span><\/sup> place and Laura Brennan taking 57th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Orla Gormley placed 61st<\/span><\/sup> overall and took third in the over 50 category. Orla Manley came home in 63rd <\/span><\/sup>with Adrienne Atkins 73rd<\/span><\/sup> and fifth over 50. Helen Carr finished 77th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Niamh Corey took a very commendable sixth place in the junior women\u2019s race, 43 seconds behind Welsh race winner Cari Hughes with Lucy Barrett finishing 19th<\/span><\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brian Fay took 22nd<\/span><\/sup> position in the junior men\u2018s race over six kilometres.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also Tara Kennedy won the prestigious An Cosantoir \u201cdefence forces\u201d 10K on Wednesday October 12th<\/span><\/sup>, posting 39 minutes 24 seconds. 29 seconds clear of second place Maeve Fenton.<\/span><\/p>\n
