{"id":7318,"date":"2023-06-22T13:38:26","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T12:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rahenyshamrock.ie\/?p=7318"},"modified":"2023-06-22T13:48:26","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T12:48:26","slug":"smyth-and-favors-fire-ireland-to-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rahenyshamrock.ie\/?p=7318","title":{"rendered":"Smyth And Favors Fire Ireland To Victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Smyth and Eric Favors both struck victory at the European Games as Ireland won division three of the European team championship.<\/p>\n<p>The day started extremely well as Mark Smyth won his 200m race in 20.66 seconds, point 38 seconds clear of Georgia\u2019s Mindia Endeladze.<\/p>\n<p>Smyth started strongly and took control of the race on the 100m mark. Ireland\u2019s fastest man powered home over the final 100m for victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u00b4m grateful to be a part of the Irish team here\u201d explained Smyth. \u201cThere\u00b4s a lot of talented athletes on it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FEuropeanAthletics%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02wQMu3LofeYEox2c5db8YfvTEGpc6wLPMAktZGYoN2BB5V48Z1MdUJr4tQc1z8VMel&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"494\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n\u201cMy legs were a bit tired after racing yesterday and it was tougher getting up this morning than I would have liked, but in a championship setting you have to be able to get up and do it against\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some similarities between athletics and Gaelic football, my first sport, but also some differences\u201d explained Smyth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Football is very team- and community-oriented. But I would advise everyone to try athletics\u201d declared Smyth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u00b4s something for everyone in it. You can always find an event you\u00b4re good at. And Gaelic football wouldn\u00b4t get me to the European Games\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>While Eric Favors won the shot put competition with a best of 20.28 metres.<\/p>\n<p>Favors opened with 19.16 metres, which would have achieved second place overall. Favors third effort of 20.28 sealed victory ahead of Bosnia\u2019s Mesud Pezer. Pezer\u2019s best as 20.25 metres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u00b4m still hitting volume in training\u201d explained Favors\u201d, so this is not my top shape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI live in the US, but I\u00b4ve been a part of the Irish team since 2019, competing around Europe, and I built a relationship with the team\u201d.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" pushing each other trying to get the most point\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u00b4t know how the team competition will end, but I knew I could contribute and hopefully thanks to my win we are in a
