{"id":7771,"date":"2023-11-19T22:40:36","date_gmt":"2023-11-19T22:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rahenyshamrock.ie\/?p=7771"},"modified":"2023-11-19T22:40:53","modified_gmt":"2023-11-19T22:40:53","slug":"fay-fifth-in-national-cross-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rahenyshamrock.ie\/?p=7771","title":{"rendered":"Fay Fifth In National Cross Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brian Fay took fifth place in the National cross country championship in Gowran on a day for real cross country running.<\/p>\n<p>Tough underfoot conditions made it a very different race with Fay taking fifth place about 50 metres behind winner Cormac Dalton of Mullingar Harriers.<\/p>\n<p>Fay led the men\u2019s team to sixth place overall. The team was Daniel Stone (47<sup>th<\/sup>), Stephen Fay (51<sup>st<\/sup>) and Shane Spring (60<sup>th<\/sup>). It\u2019s very worth noting that both Stone and Fay also competed in the U23 race finish eighth and ninth respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The non-scoring athletes were Cillian Kirwan (60<sup>th<\/sup>), Shane Spring (60<sup>th<\/sup>), Juan Ignacio Pena (69<sup>th<\/sup>), David Rooney (97<sup>th<\/sup>), Kevin Moriarty, Rob Frewen, Dylan O\u2019Brien, Conall Rogers and Davey Duane.<\/p>\n<p>It was a special day for Kilkenny City Harriers as they claimed a first national senior cross country championship. Even more impressively it was achieved on count back against North Belfast Harriers. North Belfast Harriers last won the national cross country title in 1922!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Lucy Barrett took 36<sup>th<\/sup> place in the women\u2019s senior race. Unfortunately Barrett was the only Raheny athlete in the field.<\/p>\n<p>While, Marcus O\u2019Sullivan was first Raheny junior man home in the U20 race. O\u2019Sullivan took 35<sup>th<\/sup> place with Jamie Whelan 80<sup>th<\/sup>, Mark Salmon 133rd and Christian Finn 147<sup>th<\/sup> as the Raheny team finished eighth overall.<\/p>\n<a
