Eric Favors is set to be the first Raheny Shamrock athlete into the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Friday.<\/p>\n

Track and field gets underway on Friday morning in the Stade de France with Favors set to close out the Irish involvement for the day. The shot put competition begins at 7:10pm Irish times.<\/p>\n

Favors will need to throw 21.35 metres to advance automatically to the final, if not he will be relying on placing within the top twelve from the two qualification groups.<\/p>\n

First into action will be Team Ireland\u2019s three 1500m men; Cathal Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers), Luke McCann (UCD AC) and Andrew Coscoran (Star of the Sea AC).<\/p>\n

The first six athletes in each of the three heats will advance to the semi-finals with all remaining athletes entering the repechage round.<\/p>\n

In the evening session Jodie McCann (Dublin City Harriers) will also make her Olympic debut having qualified for the Women\u2019s 5000m.<\/p>\n

The mixed 4×400 metre relay team go in their Olympic semi-final at 6:22pm Irish time. The Irish selectors will not name the team until the final declaration.<\/p>\n

However, sources close to the team in Paris suggest the team will be Chris O\u2019Donnell\\Sophie Becker\\Thomas Barr\\Sharlene Mawdsley. The team are aiming to qualify for a second consecutive Olympic final.<\/p>\n
