Mick Clohisey was named the 2016 Raheny Shamrock Athlete of the year on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
Over 250 club members packed into the fabulous Whitehouse bar and restaurant in Baldoyle to celebrate a year in which the club landed the men\u2019s senior national cross country and road relay championship.<\/p>\n
Athlete of the year Clohisey and sprinter Orla Comerford represented Ireland at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n
The awards were presented to;<\/p>\n
Junior Athlete of the Year \u2013 Mark Smyth<\/strong><\/p>\n The highlight of Smyth\u2019s year was posting the European Junior championship B standard of 21.74 for 200 metres<\/p>\n Female Road & Cross Country \u2013 Tara Kennedy-Monks<\/strong><\/p>\n Kennedy-Monks won the senior Dublin county Marathon and took silver in the Leinster marathon ran in conjunction with the Airtricity Dublin Marathon. Kennedy-Monks also won Masters V2 category in the national half marathon and marathon.<\/p>\n Male Road & Cross Country \u2013 Mick Clohisey<\/strong><\/p>\n Mick Clohisey won the national 10k road championship and the Dublin senior cross country title along with the 2016 AXA Raheny 5. Clohisey also collected silver in the national cross country championship.<\/p>\n Female Track & Field \u2013 Sue Scallon<\/strong><\/p>\n Sue twice broke the 400 metre club record, resetting to 55.21 seconds at the national track & field championships in Santry on June 25th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n Male Track & Field \u2013 Kieran Kelly<\/strong><\/p>\n Kieran set new three club records in the year, resetting the indoor record to 1:48.82 in Athlone IT. Outdoors Kieran set the 800 metre record to 1:47.50 and the 1500 metre record to 3:43.59.<\/p>\n Athlete of the year \u2013 Mick Clohisey<\/strong><\/p>\n Clohisey lifted the athlete of the year for the third time having been part of the successful road relay and cross country gold medal winning teams.<\/p>\n Having won the AXA Raheny 5, the national 10k road title he also took bronze in the national 10,000 metres and individual silver in the cross country.<\/p>\n Outside the country Clohisey posted the fastest Irish marathon time of the year in the Seville marathon while also competing at the Olympic Games and the European Cross Country championships.<\/p>\n Club Merit Award \u2013 Kincora2Passage committee<\/strong><\/p>\n In a year of fantastic success on the road, track and cross country, the club was brought together on September\u00a017 with a relay race from Kincora road, Clontarf to Passage East Co.Waterford.<\/p>\n Over 140 club members took part in the 115 mile relay to honour the memory the late Ronan Walsh.<\/p>\n The organising committee of Nora Byrne, Simon Reede, Des Lyons, Jenny Mulry, Trish Buckley, Peggy Rochford, Mary Purdue-Smyth, Rachel Markey and Roisin Bennett where awarded the merit award for their vision and achievement in organising the event.<\/p>\n
