{"id":9263,"date":"2025-05-11T23:23:31","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T22:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rahenyshamrock.ie\/?p=9263"},"modified":"2025-05-11T23:23:31","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T22:23:31","slug":"beckers-ireland-seal-tokyo-2025-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rahenyshamrock.ie\/?p=9263","title":{"rendered":"Becker&#8217;s Ireland Seal Tokyo 2025 Spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sophie Becker steered the Irish women\u2019s 4x400m relay team into the World Championships at the World Relays in Guangzhou on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The team of \u00a0Becker, Rhasidat Adeleke, Rachel McCann, and Sharlene Mawdsley won their repechage heat in 3:24.96 to qualify for Tokyo 2025.<\/p>\n<p>After narrowly missing out on automatic qualification in Saturday\u2019s heats, the team bounced back with an excellent performance.<\/p>\n<p>A reshuffled line-up sawe Becker lead off from lane seven, delivering a strong opening leg before handing over to Rhasidat Adeleke, who maintained Ireland\u2019s lead against a fast-charging Australian team.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel McCann, running the third leg, held the advantage until the final exchange, where Australia briefly edged ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Sharlene Mawdsley once again anchored the team and timed her finish perfectly, kicking in the last 200m to seal victory with a commanding 15-meter lead at the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so relieved\u201d said Becker. \u201cI think I speak for all of us when I say that. It was a great box to tick getting the mixed qualified yesterday, and now to come out here and get the second team qualified for Tokyo is such a relief\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all really excited to see what the summer brings now\u201d added Becker.<\/p>\n<p>Well done to Sophie and the Irish team who also qualified for the mixed 4x400m relay at the World Championships.
