European Club Cross Country – Team Announcement

Men’s captain Dick Hooper has announced the Senior Men’s team which will compete at the European Champion Club Cup Cross Country on February 5.

Two time National senior cross country champion Mick Clohisey leads the team with the four scoring members of the national senior club cross country team selected.

The three other scorers in November Conor Dooney, Kevin Dooney and Mark Kirwan who was recalled to international duty last weekend, have also been selected.

World Masters Mountain running champion Ian Conroy and 2017 Leinster and Dublin masters cross country champion John Dunne complete the line-up.

Simon Ryan and Donal Foley are selected as first and second reserves respectfully, both travel to Albuferia.

“We have selected the strongest team available” explained men’s cross country captain Dick Hooper.

“Mick, Kevin and Conor Dooney and Mark Kirwan have all competed in the European cross country championship and will know what to expect in Albufeira.”

“Travelling with both our reserves shows the commitment we have to European championships and the part the entire panel have played in getting the club to this stage”

This is the first time Raheny Shamrock have competed in the senior men’s tournament at the European Champion Clubs Cup, the senior women’s team having finished seventh at this tournament in 2014.

Kevin Dooney was part of the junior men’s team which competed in the 2011 championship.

The senior men’s race at the 2017 European Champion Club Cup Cross Country begins at 11:40am Irish time on Sunday February fifth.
