Kelly Breaks 25-Year-Old Record

Kieran Kelly set a new club 1,000 metre indoor record at the baseline meet in AIT on Wednesday December 13.

A record that stood for a quarter of a century was rewritten as Kelly crossed the line in 2:25.63, improving on Brian Peppard’s record of 2:25.69 set in Iowa City on February 15 1992!

An early birthday present for Kelly who now holds five club indoor records and was some 10 seconds clear of second place Tom Hennessy of Nenagh Olympic.

Elsewhere in AIT Colm Bourke won heat four of the 60 metres posting 7.33 seconds with Liam Sheehan fourth in 7.58 seconds.

Bourke followed his 60 metre victory up with 150 metre victory winning heat six in 17.2 seconds. Liam Sheehan took third place in heat four in 18.53 seconds with Matthew Cotter fifth in heat three in 18.57 seconds.

Sean O’Driscoll won heat four of the 300 metres in 37.18 seconds with Dylan Kirwan fourth in heat three in 38.72 seconds.

To wrap up a good winters evening Matthew cotter won the long jump with a best attempt of 5.95 metres jumped in attempt three.
