European Clubs Cup Cross Country

The Raheny Shamrock senior men’s cross country team arrived in Albuferia last night ahead of the European champion clubs cup cross country.

The Irish champions are led by Mick Clohisey where the team of four to score from six. The team joining Mick is Kevin Dooney, Conor Dooney, Mark Kirwan, Ian Conroy and John Dunne.

Simon Ryan and Donal Foley are both part of the team as first and second reserves respectively.

Captain Dick Hooper is set to confirm his team later this evening, it is expected that Simon Ryan will replace the injured Conor Dooney.

The team are in good form and conducted a short training session on the course earlier today.

Raheny Shamrock are no strangers to this Albuferia course our senior women’s team having competed at the European Champion clubs cup cross country in 2014.

There is a very sizeable entourage in Portugal with the team including club stalwarts Mick Martin and Colm Cahill, Cahill having served on the club’s committee since 1991.

Altogether a band of approximately 50 Raheny Shamrock supporters are expected in Albuferia to support the team in this our first appearance in the senior men’s event.

The senior men’s race is due to start at 12:40pm.

Raheny Shamrock also wish the best of luck to Dundrum South Dublin A.C who represent Ireland in both the junior and senior women’s races and Clonliffe Harriers A.C Ireland’s representive in the Junior men’s race.
