Men’s Leinster Silver lining

David Kirwin led the men’s novice team to the Leinster cross country silver medals in Tyrellspass, Co.Westmeath today.

The men just missed out on gold by one single place, finishing behind Crusaders who amassed 69 points to Raheny’s 70.

Kirwan was first Raheny man home in 11th place followed just one place later by Des Kennedy. Ciaran McCarthy 14th and Wesley O’Brien 33rd made up the team with a total of 70 points.

The host club Mullingar Harriers landed the bronze medal with 79 points. Other club finishers where Ian McConkey (54), Carl Conroy (68) and Colm Delaney (92).

The men’s race saw a one – two for Kilkenny City Harriers pair Peter Lynch and Tom O’Keefe with Mullingar Harriers Padraig Moran third.

The ladies team finished in 10th place with the team led home by Adrienne Atkins in 44th place with Helen Carr 62nd, Nicola Mooney 69th and Aileen Connolly 74th for a total score of 249 points.

Caitriona Costello rounded up the Raheny performances in 79th place. The race was won by Elizabeth Carr of Mullingar Harriers. Laura Buckley of Dunboyne took silver with Noreen Brouder of Sportsworld taking bronze.

Sportsworld won gold with 39 points as Tullamore Harriers taking silver with 84 points and Dublin City Harriers taking bronze with 125 points.
