Kate Purcell was third woman home at the Irish life Fingal 10K posting 35 minutes 40 seconds. Purcell was just 65 seconds off race winner Ciara Hickey of Brothers Pearse with Meghan Ryan of DSD second in 35:42. The race doubled as the Dublin 10k road championship with Purcell taking bronze. Brian Fay set a new national 5,000m record of 13:01.40 at the Night of Athletics meeting in Belgium. Fay’s time took two seconds off Alistar Cragg’s national record which has stood since September 2011. The time is under the automatic qualifying standard for the World Championships in Budapest.
