Kate Purcell ran a very strong race to win the national half-marathon championship in Fairyhouse racecourse on Saturday. Purcell came home in 78:00 with a very strong final two miles for gold, some three minutes clear of silver medallist Sarah Baryga. Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tim Maher. The Maher family were very prominent in the club in the 1970’s and 80’s. Most of Tim’s children wore the club vest at some stage. John represented the Ireland junior team at the World cross country in Chepstow 1976.
