Kelly sets new club 1500 Metre Indoor Record

Kieran Kelly set a new club record for the indoor 1500 metre on Sunday afternoon at the new national indoor arena in Abbottstown.

Daire Bermingham had lowered his own standard last Saturday night to 3:52.24, however Kelly has now improved on that mark.

Kelly clocked three minutes 47.63 seconds finishing second to John Travers in Abbotstown, a near five second improvement.

The mark is just four seconds outside the qualifying standard for next month’s European Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

In the same race Cillian Kirwan posted three minutes 56.81 seconds.

There were a number of Raheny athlete’s getting their first taste of the new Abbotstown Arena, the first of which was Lucy Barrett who clocked 11:06.10 for 3,000 metres.

Daniel Scully posted one minute 59.31 seconds for the 800 while Iseult O’Donnell clocked 58.95 seconds for the two lapped 400 metres.

Dylan Kirwan clocked 55:30 seconds for the same event.

The national senior indoor championship takes place in the same venue on the 18th of February.
