Kieran Kelly engraved his name onto another club record, this time the club’s indoor mile record on Wednesday night.
Kelly clocked four minutes three point 17 seconds at the Athlone IT international as he finished in eighth place. The time was just three seconds off the European Indoor qualification standard.
Kelly has one more chance to qualify for the Europe Indoor Championships which take place in Belgrade next month, when he races in the national championships this weekend.
Kelly’s time shaved a full three seconds of Daire Bermingham’s which was set in Boston in 2010. Kelly was also clocked at 3:46.64 at the 1500 metre mark, which counts as a new 1500 metre indoor club record.
The race was won by Australian Ryan Gregson in three minutes 56 point 49 seconds.
