L’Estrange and Byrne just miss indoor national medals

Sean L’Estrange was just five hundredths of a second off a medal at day two of the Irish Life Health National Juvenile indoor championships in Athlone I.T today.

L’Estrange clocked 7.47 seconds to finish in fifth place in the under 16 60 metre final with bronze being taken in 7.42 seconds. L’Estrange had qualified for the final having posted 7.52 seconds in his heat.

On Saturday’s opening day Kevin Byrne took fourth place in the under 18 high jump with a best of 1.80 metres. Bronze was awarded with a best of 1.85 metres.

Daniel Beveridge took sixth place in the under 18 shot put with a best of 12.23 metres, while the under 19 Boys 4×200 metre relay team posted 1.39.86 for sixth place.

While on day two Katie Walsh Flanagan also performed bravely in the under 19 60 metre final clocking 8.58 seconds for sixth place, having made the final with a heat time of 8.30 seconds.

Ailish Murtagh took sixth place in the under 19 1500 final clocking five minutes 9.60 seconds while Aoibhinn McGoldrick finished sixth in the 400 metre final in 62.64 seconds having come through the heats in 61.73 seconds.

Conall O’Toole clocked 55.26 in the under 400 metres, while Aibhe Finnegan also competed in the women’s event. Jamie Sheridan clocked 53.93 in the under 18 men’s 400 metre heat.

The indoor season wraps up on Saturday April first with day three of the juvenile championships in Athlone I.T.
