This year marks the 16th consecutive year and 17th in total of the National Road Relay’s being hosted in Raheny Village by Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club.

2016 Senior Men’s Road Relay Champions

The club was founded in 1958 as Raheny one of the country’s oldest villages was transforming into a modern suburb in a new modern Ireland.

Raheny villages athletic history has been dated long before Raheny Shamrock were founded with the Raheny sports day records dating back to the 18th century.

When our club was founded one of our first promotions were the Raheny Road Relays. The Raheny road relays became the star attraction in what was then a bulging road relay calendar.

The 1962 Raheny Road Relays were captured on film by the Lorcan film unit also known as the Crowe Family with some footage available below, starting at 8 seconds.

The first person you can see on film is Monsignor Fitzpatrick who was Raheny Parish Priest and the first President of Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club from 1958 – 1974.

Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club are proud to bring the National Road Relays to Raheny and the village that has become the home of Irish Athletics.

We will always be welcoming to Irish athletes and wish them to visit our beautiful home.
