Clohisey off to Worlds

Athletics Ireland have today confirmed the selection of Mick Clohisey as part of the Irish team for the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships in London.

Clohisey gained the selection standard of 2:17:00 in Seville last year when he ran 2:15:10 en route to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

While Mick would be disappointed with his showing at the London marathon last Sunday, he will no doubt show that form is temporary and class is permanent.

Clohisey will be joined in London by Annadale Striders Paul Pollock and Rathfarnham WSAF’s Sean Hehir.

Hehir is coached by Raheny Shamrock men’s track and field captain Dick Hooper.

Athletics Ireland have selected Kilcoole’s Fionnuala McCormack and Leevale’s Claire Gibbons McCarthy for the women’s race.

Both the men’s and women’s marathon takes place on Sunday August 6, the men’s race begins at 10.55am and the Women’s race at 2pm.

Mick becomes the second Raheny Shamrock athlete to compete at the IAAF World Athletics Championships.

Paddy McGrath competed in the hammer for Ireland in the 1999 World Championships in Seville Spain.
