Raheny Shamrock were presented with the All Ireland Cross Country Club of the Year trophy for 2016/17 at the Athletics Ireland AGM on Saturday.
The award based on league format is determined with across the men’s and women’s national novice, intermediate, senior, masters 35 and masters 50 cross country championships.
The points were awarded as one point for a team finishing any of the championships and then points were award for the top eight teams in each competition.
The club’s men’s team raised gold in the senior, master 35 and master 50 competition. Those victories plus fourth for the masters 50 women’s helped us acquire 36 points, four points clear of Sportswold.
Brian Corcoran, Colette Quinn and Pat Hooper were on hand to receive the trophy from Athletics Ireland President Georgina Drumm.
A fantastic achievement to land this title as it was just reward for a huge effort by the entire cross country squad over a rewarding winter..
The tournament itself is in its second year of existence and was won by Donore Harriers in 2015/16.
Also at the meeting Pat Hooper and Colette Quinn were awarded with National Technical Official certificates. The certificate is part of the IAAF technical official process.
Pat is a vastly experienced official and has acted as the race referee for the Dublin Marathon for the last 10 years.
Colette has amassed huge experience in juvenile athletics and served on the Athletics Ireland juvenile board.
