Dooney Lights up Belfast Track

Conor Dooney notched an impressive 3,000 metres victory at the Irish Milers Club meet held at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast on Saturday afternoon.

Dooney powered away to win out in eight minutes 16 point 90 seconds clear of Barry Keane from Waterford who clocked 8:18.66 with Thomas Morgan of Kilkenny City Harriers third in 8:20.50.

Aisling Drumgoole took second place in the 400 metre A race clocking 56.33 seconds. The race was won by DSD’s Mollie O’Reilly in 55.10 with Clonliffe’s Leah Bergin third in 58.38.

Kieran Kelly posted an impressive third place at the BMC taking place in Watford, England on Saturday evening.

Kelly posted one minute 49.10 seconds in the 800 metre A race, outside his season best but just point 32 seconds off victory.

Cardiff’s Tom Marshall won out in one minute 48.68 seconds with Ipswich’s John Bird taking second place in 1:48.84.

Eoin Strutt set a new 1500 metre personal best of three minutes 51.39 seconds when he took third place in the E race.

This was another tight affair with Enfield & Haringey’s Paulos Surafel winning out in 3:50.07 and Sweden’s Awet Mengsteab second in 3:50.84.
