Clohisey Ready For World Challenge

Mick Clohisey is ready to go as he represents Ireland in the World Athletics Championship Marathon in London tomorrow morning.

Clohisey becomes the second Raheny Shamrock athlete to compete in the World Championships following on from hammer thrower Paddy McGrath in Seville 1999.

“It’s great to represent the country and the Shamrocks on the World stage” Clohiesy told

“I’m hoping to put in a strong performance and get my marathon racing back on track after a few under par performances.”

“I’ve learned a lot about the distance and how to respect it” added Clohisey.

Clohisey joins Paddy McGrath as the only Raheny Shamrock athlete’s to compete in the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships.

Sprint coach Paddy Fay, the club’s first juvenile member was also coach to the Irish team at the World Championships in 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2003.

The very best wishes to Mick Clohisey who is coached by Dick Hooper. Clohisey will be joined on the start line by Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir another athlete coached by Dick Hooper.

The race begins at 10:55am and is broadcast as part of the World Championship coverage by BBC and Eurosport.
