There were no medals but there were a host of good performances for the men’s and women’s teams in today National track & field final in Tullamore.
Kay Bannon’s women’s team finished in fifth place with a total 81 points, the championship was won by St. Abbans with 135pts, DSD took silver with 112pts and Kildare County were third in 102pts.
Mieke Kieran took maximum points in the hammer with a longest throw of 41.04 metres. Kiernan also took third place in the discus with a best throw of 27.17 metres.
Aishling Drumgoole took third place in the 400 metres posting 57.46 seconds and also posted 25.32 seconds for third in the 200 metres, each accounting for seven points.
There were fourth place finishes for Niamh Corry in the 3,000 metres clocking 10 minutes 27.78 seconds. While Kim O’Hare took third place in the triple jump in 10.90 metres.
The 4×400 metres took fourth place clocking 4:09.79, with DSD winning in 4:02.93. The team was Lucy Barrett, Aisling Drumgoole, Susie O’Flynn and Susan Scallan.
The men’s finished in fourth place overall with 96 points. Clonliffe Harriers retained their title with 142pts with Crusaders taking silver with 130pts and Tipperary County took bronze with 109.5pts, just 10.5 pts clear of the Shamrock’s.
Kieran Kelly landed the 1500/800 metre double posting 4:14.53 for the metric mile and 1:54.72 for the two lap event.
Freddy Sittuk also scored a double with the 3,000 metre steeplechase and 5,000 metres. Sittuk posted 9:33.15 for the steeple and 15:13.33 for the 5,000 metres.
Kevin Byrne picked up eight points in the high jump having shared victory with Keith Marks of Clonliffe Harriers, the two could not be separated having cleared 1.75 metres.
It was a good day in the jumps all round with Conor Bermingham picking up seven points in the pole vault with a best of 4.10 metres and Colm Bourke collecting seven points in the long jump with a best of 6.86 metres.
And that ends the national track & field season.
