Clohisey Leads Shamrock’s Into Europe

Olympian Mick Clohisey will lead Raheny Shamrock at the European Clubs Cross Country in Mira, Portugal on February fourth.

The vastly experienced Clohisey, 10th in last year’s event in Albufeira, just eight seconds off third place is back to lead the squad after missing the national championship in November through injury.

Clohisey will be joined in the front pen by national 10,000 metre and half-marathon champion Kevin Dooney, who placed second in the recent national cross country.

National 5,000 metre champion Conor Dooney having missed out on last year’s European club cross country through injury is available and selected.

Reflective of the strength of the squad is the inclusion of 21-year-old Eoin Strutt, having represented Ireland in last December’s European under 23 cross country championships in Bratislava.

The vastly experienced Mark Kirwan and Cillian O’Leary, men who have contributed to so many great championship performances on the country and road over the years make up the six who will go to the line.

“It is the strongest squad available and hopes are high that the team will deliver a performance effective of its obvious ability” explained Raheny Shamrock men’s road & cross country captain Dick Hooper.

The team travels to Mira on Friday 2nd February, via Porto and returns on Monday 5th February.

A large group of supporters are also intending to travel.
