The 2018 Lord Mayor Road Race series was launched in Raheny today.
The series of 13 “Two Mile” road races begins on Tuesday June 12 and runs every Tuesday until August 28th.
All races start at 8pm on the Wades Avenue / Watermill drive course, a course which is used for the National Road Relay championships.
The second race in the series, the “Tommy Lynam Mid-Summer race” takes place on Sunday June 17th with an 11am start.
Tommy Lynam was President of Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club from 2003 to his passing in 2008 and represented the club as an athlete for some 20 years.
Tommy also served in a variety of committee roles including two terms as chairman.
The Peter Doody memorial Two Mile takes its now traditional place in the calendar, Peter tragically passed away in Spain in 2003.
While the John Fennell memorial race is a new addition to the series, taking place on July 24th.
John was a long-time member of the club, playing a huge part both in the club colours and behind the scenes.
John was a regular competitor in the Lord Mayor of Raheny series and also supported the race organisers in the post-race preparations, before passing away in 2017,
Entry Fee is €7 per race or €50 for the series.
Prizes are awarded in all age categories with your best 8 races counting toward the overall series prize.
The summer series of races finishes on Tuesday September 5 with the “Jim Wall Open Handicap road race”
