Mark Smyth Smashes 100m Record

Mark Smyth set a new club record of 10.40 seconds when winning the 100 metres at the AAI Summer games in Carlow IT on Sunday.

Smyth was in lighting form having one heat of series one earlier in the day in 10.69 metres ahead of Paul Costelloe in 10.86.

Smyth then knocked an amazing point 18 seconds off his club record which was set just 10 weeks ago when he clocked 10.40 seconds to win series two.

For the record Paul Costelloe was second in 10.68 seconds.

Aedan L’Estrange second in heat three in 11.33 seconds. Seventh in heath two of the second series in 11.53.

Meanwhile, Niamh Fogarty won the discus with a best of 50.67m well ahead of Anna Gavigan of Lambay Sports Academy who threw 40.75m.

While, Oisin McCorry wins 400m hurdles in 56.85 seconds with David Dagg of DSD second in 60.44.

Elsewhere Lucy Barrett took fourth place in the Women’s 1500m in 4:44.39 and Aisling Ahern sixth in 4:48.58, Jodie McCann won out in 4:33.21.

In the men’s event Adam Condon posted 4:06.06 with Luke Murphy seventh in 4:07.06, this race was won by the reigning European U20 champion Cian McPhillips in an Irish U20 record 3:40.56.

Women’s 200m Hannah Byrne third in heat two in 27.16. In the 400 metres Hannah Byrne posted 60.86 seconds for fifth in the first heat.

Niamh Kearney fourth in the women’s 800m in 2:10.69.

In the mixed 5,000 metres Dylan O’Brien took second place in 16:30.24 with Robert Kelly third in 16:36.78. The race was won by Craughwell’s Jamie Fallon in 15:38.97.
