Dylan O’Brien – A remarkable comeback story

3 years ago, Dylan O’Brien had his left kidney removed after a tumour was found unexpectedly. He then began a year of cancer treatment (immunotherapy) in March 2025, which he finished up in February this year. On Sunday he will run the Dublin Marathon in a truly inspirational story of perseverance.

He is fundraising for the Mater Oncology ward, and here are a few words from the man himself:

‘Every single person I met in the Mater throughout my journey were nothing short of sensational. But I am fundraising specifically for the Oncology Day Ward where I received my treatment (every 3 weeks for the year). Thankfully I had very little side effects from the treatment, but regardless, the staff in that ward were so comforting and caring throughout, and most importantly were able to have the craic when it felt right!

I would be so grateful if you could donate whatever you can, so that the ward can put it towards what they see fit, whether that’s for new treatment chairs, or stocking up the all important sandwich trolley (I’m not joking – it was the highlight of every visit)

If you want to follow my training as I get ready to take on the marathon, give me a follow on strava!
