Sophie Becker made history on Friday morning becoming the first Raheny Shamrock athlete to compete in the World indoor championships in Belgrade.
Olympian Becker posted 53.47 seconds in heat three of the 400 metres to finish fourth in her race. In a very competitive championship just the first two advance to the semi-finals.
A great performance and achievement none the less for Becker who had her early season disrupted by covid-19.
Becker is also selected in the Irish panel for the 4×400 metre relay, their heat and final are scheduled for Sunday.
