Becker Sets New Club 400m Record

Sophie Becker set a new club 400m record at the IFAM meeting Oordegem, Belgium on Saturday.

Becker improved on her personal best set earlier this month in Belfast to clock 51.83 seconds to take second place behind Brazil’s Tiffani Silva Marinho.

At the same meet Mark Smyth clocked 10.62 seconds over 100 metres to finish 11th overall.

On a very busy weekend of track running, Kieran Kelly won the men’s 1500m at the Belfast International. Kelly posted 3:47.99 ahead of Neil Johnston from Annadale Striders in 3:49.82.

While Niamh Fogarty had the best throw in the mixed discus event. Fogarty sixth attempt registered 50.85 metres.

There were medals at plenty at the Leinster track and field championships in Carlow.

Luke Murphy took 1500m bronze in 4:01.71, the race was won by Rathfarnham’s David Scanlon in 3:58.59 with Tallaght’s Eoghan Keaney second in 4:00.15.

While Sean L’Estrange took 200m in 23.43 seconds. Donal Kearns posted 61.01 seconds in the 400m hurdles. While in the junior men’s 200 metres Ethan Banks posted 28.48 seconds

Paul Curtayne took O/50 bronze in the 100mH in 27.90 and gold 1500m in 6:15.47. Curtayne took fourth place in the O/50’s in 2:39.41 and then jumped 1.35 metres in the high jump.

Elsewhere, Gary Aylward took O/60 1500 gold in 5:14.10 and bronze in the 800m in 2:38.76.

Ciaran O’Coigligh took bronze in the O/65 1500m in 7:06.52 and posted 18.05 seconds for 100m..

400m Patricia O’Cleirigh took O/55 silver 400m silver in 72.79 seconds and clocked 2:49.26 in the 800 metres.
