Sophie Becker ran a great second leg as Ireland finished second in their 4x400m mixed relay heat to make the World final.
Sligo’s Chris O’Donnell led out the team with Becker running a very strong second leg handing over to Donore Harriers Jack Rafferty in fourth place.
Rafferty produced a very strong run, powering home off the final bend to hand over to Tallaght’s Rhasidat Adeleke who showed her speed on the back straight to come home second in 3:18.88.
Dominican Republic won out in 3:13.22 with Ireland finishing ahead of Jamaica in third.
“Honestly it’s just the lactic” Sophie Becker told the BBC after the race. “The heat just amplifies the pain, I’m like this after every race” added Becker with a smile.
Ireland will race again in the World final at 3:50am. Ireland will face Dominican Republic, Jamaica, USA, Netherlands, Poland, Italy and Nigeria.
Best wishes to Sophie Becker and the Irish team.
Also best wishes to Eric Favors who competes in the shot put starting at 2:55am.
